SUMMARY:Filling in the Blanks Unite to Fight 5K
DESCRIPTION:Join Filling in the Blanks on August 23\, 2026\, at the Eighth Annual Unite to Fight 5K. The race will take place at Mill River Park\, located in Stamford\, CT. Enjoy a 5k race with food\, prizes\, and t-shirts\, all while benefiting Filling in the Blanks and their core programs. \nIn Fairfield County\, more than 33\,000 children are not sure where their next meal will come from. Most will get breakfast and lunch from school every weekday\, but many will go from Friday lunch until Monday at breakfast without a decent meal. Founded in 2013\, Filling in the Blanks is an organization that fills weekend gaps by providing each child in its program with a bag of healthy\, easy-to-prepare food for the weekend. When the obstacle of food insecurity is removed\, children experience improved academic achievement and greater opportunities for success in their lives. FITB continuously serves 10\,000+ kids at over 200 sites throughout Fairfield\, Westchester\, and Putnam counties. FITB has also established four in-school pantries and\, in 2023\, launched the Fresh Food On The Move mobile pantry\, which provides families with fresh produce\, veggies\, proteins\, and other staples\, as well as health and wellness services.

SUMMARY:Faded is the Crimson: Acoustic Tribute to the Grateful Dead
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special and rare performance celebrating the Grateful Dead’s beloved 1981 live acoustic double album Reckoning\, performed by “Faded Is The Crimson”\, an All-star band led by guitarist JD Seem (of Faster Things – Allman Brothers Tribute). The lineup includes Doug Marino (of Laughin’ Bones and Alligator bands) on keys and vocals\, Barry Blumenfeld on guitar and vocals\, and Rob Fried on bass and vocals (both of CT Grateful Dead Allstars and Bone Dry bands)\, and Hans Broecking (Fuzz and Friends\, Shell Shock) on drums and vocals. \nFaded is The Crimson performs only a few times a year at select venues\, and we’re excited to host one of their rare performances at “Music at the Barn.” This special lineup will gather to revive the spirit of those intimate 1980 shows—with stripped-down arrangements\, sweet harmonies\, and that unmistakable Dead warmth — for an unforgettable night!

SUMMARY:Make Music Day
DESCRIPTION:Join in the free global celebration of music on the summer solstice with an outdoor concert on the front lawn of Connecticut’s oldest house. Kala Farnham crafts contemporary folk songs with roots and wings\, weaving age-old truths into modern grooves. The 18th Connecticut State Troubadour and award-winning artist draws on a background in classical piano\, musical theater\, and therapeutic sound to offer a signature reinvention of the folk tradition — infusing fairytales\, historical fiction\, and narrative medicine into vivid portraits of the human experience. Bring your own lawn chairs\, blankets\, and picnics. The concert will be moved inside if it rains. SUMMARY:Made to Last: Textiles of Early Connecticut
DESCRIPTION:FREE\, but registration is required. \nLearn about the thread that textile arts weave through American history. \nMargaret Liljedahl will be presenting on over 300 years of the weaving arts\, their pivotal role in American homes\, and their significance in our early economy. \nTextile production was a critical part of the economy and culture of colonial New England\, and its echoes can still be heard today! \nParticipants will have the chance to see examples of antique fiber-processing equipment from across Connecticut and learn how they have been used over the past 300+ years. After the talk\, Margaret will demonstrate weaving live on a loom. No prior weaving knowledge or experience necessary! \nThis event is part of the “America 250: The Revolutionary Spirit Lecture Series” co-sponsored by the Friends of the Weston Public Library\, The Weston History & Culture Center\, and the League of Women Voters of Weston\, with funding from the Weston America 250 Advisory Group. \nAbout the Presenter: Margaret Liljedahl is a West Hartford native who first encountered an antique loom at a CT museum. Over the past decade\, Margaret has studied historical weaving techniques. She has the privilege of working with several historical sites and museums across Connecticut and New York to get their barn looms singing again. She is an active member of the Handweavers Guild of Connecticut and is passionate about connecting antique fiber equipment with locals who still know how to use it.
