Call the Babysitter…It’s Time To Go To Craft 260

I remember the days before I had children when my husband and I would go out to dinner at least 2-3 times each week. We loved to go to new places and try new food. Now, three children later, we are lucky if we get a night out once a month!

That’s why on the rare occasion a babysitter is scheduled, we stick with what we know…and that place is Craft 260, located in Fairfield.

No matter what, we are guaranteed to enjoy unbelievably good food in a fun casual atmosphere. Craft 260 is our perfect go-to spot for great drinks and American comfort food with a twist.

Craft 260 is co-owned by Tomer Raviv, Kosta Proskinitopoulos, and Chef Vincent Mascaro. The trio (all of whom are daddies) built this new hot spot around the concept that our country was built on the hard work and craftsmanship of the great people who came before us. They believe that gathering around the table to enjoy great food while sharing the stories of our lives is the way to carry on the legacy of all we have built. That’s why it’s the perfect place to go for a well-deserved night out.

picstitchI recently had the opportunity to go to Craft 260 (on a school night) with my husband and another couple for a much-needed night out! The moment we walked through the door, we were welcomed and seated. We were also greeted by Tomer (one of the owners) who is so knowledgeable about the perfect pairings between food and drink.

He knew I LOVE my wine (Pinot Noir—my oldest son refers to it as my “mommy juice”) and that I also enjoy a sweet martini, so Tomer offered me a Down East cider to try. Let me tell you, I do not like beer or anything close to it, but this cider was amazing! It was so sweet and smooth, like a fine glass of wine! I love that he was able to help me branch out and try something new.

picstitch (1)Since we were all ravenous, to start, we ordered the Beer Brussels (mixed with roasted garlic, goat cheese, and a smoked tomato & bourbon ketchup), Southern Fried Bacon (battered & fried crispy with a bourbon and maple syrup reduction drizzled on top), and the Craft Nachos (tortilla chips covered with pulled pork, red onions, tomatoes, garlic, black beans, roasted jalapeno chimichurri, and the most amazing IPA Vermont cheddar sauce). All I can say is YUM! These plates are meant for sharing, but I would have liked to keep them all to myself…especially the bacon…mmm bacon! My mouth is just watering thinking about it.

As if things couldn’t get any better, our entrees blew us away. I had a hard time deciding what to order, but I went with the 260 Classic Burger. This 8-ounce burger, made with a fresh mix of ground short rib, is fire-grilled and topped with caramelized onions (cooked for over 8 hours!), smoked tomatoes, crispy pork belly, and that amazing IPA Vermont cheddar sauce (I want to pour that on everything). All that tastiness is squeezed between a roasted brioche bun slathered with a garlic aioli. This burger comes with fries, but I highly recommend upgrading to the Craft 260 Fries cooked in truffle oil and mixed with shaved pecorino. I also picked off the plates of everyone else too!picstitch (3)

We didn’t have much room for dessert, but the dessert menu made me think twice…especially their Apple Bourbon Pie…or wait…Peanut Butter Jelly Time? Luckily, it’s still January, so I’m still attempting to stick to my New Year’s Resolutions (ok, who am I kidding?).

As you can see, Craft 260 is the perfect spot for amazing food and drinks – a total score for the perfect date night!

Connecticut Magazine has named them in the top 10 of the best craft beer spots in the state. They also offer unbelievable specials and events throughout the week. Every Monday, draft beers are 50% off (you need to check out their amazing list of high-end craft beers), and burgers are only $5, along with some other food options. This deal can’t be beat! They are also starting up a Trivia Night every Tuesday beginning on February 10th. This is the perfect excuse…you can enjoy a fun night out with friends and “exercise” your brain!

Tuesday through Friday, they also offer a fantastic Happy Hour from 3-6 p.m. All draft beers are $2 off, $4 glasses of wine (YES, please!), and several discounted food options. Working mamas…maybe that meeting after work takes a little longer than usual (wink, wink). And for you stay-at-home moms, they offer great lunch specials featuring flatbreads cooked in their wood-burning oven (natural wood – no gas) and several delicious salads. It’s time for some strategic planning and a quick lunch with girlfriends in between dropoff and pickup!

No matter what, you need to get in there and try the outstanding cuisine that Craft 260 has to offer! As I write this, my stomach is growling at the thought! I need to go and call my babysitter – quick!
