Let it Go?

I need to let it go. It’s mid-August…so like a very normal, calm, organized mom I’m already thinking of Halloween costumes. Duh! It is really thanks to Costco for having decorations and costumes on display while I just try and grab more sunscreen on the cheap!

Me: “Ooooh, what about a pony this year!”

3 Year old: “I think I want to be Elsa.”

I have a smile on the outside but on the inside I’m screaming NOOOOOO, while I break out in cold sweats. How can I do this? I MUST convince her to be something else! Something else not, ELSA! We are not being that ice queen for a second year in a row!

Me: “What if we get you a curly red wig and you can be Merida?”

Since we already have the dress hanging with the tags on it from when you insisted that Santa bring it. Again, still smiling on the outside, grinding my teeth on the inside!

3 year old: “I think I’m going to be Elsa.”

Would you believe that with my first kid, Halloween consisted of me SEWING her a Dorothy costume. Like legit, bought the gingham, Toto, a little basket, the whole nine! Fast forward to year 3 and I’m begging for the least tattered, frayed, wrinkled princess dress we have received from Christmas past. Oh and if that little monkey costume from last year fits little man this year…yup, I’m going there! I will have them watch tons of Dora and make him think he’s her side kick Boots.

Snap out of it Melissa, it’s mid August, we need to get through the rest of these amazing summer days, the first day of preschool, and then panic last minute on October 29th like every year. Why do I care what she’s going to be? Let it go Melissa, let it go…
