The Closest Thing to Bubble-Wrapping Your Kids? The Volvo XC90

If you ask a parent about their first ride home with their newborn baby, they can probably recall every detail to you, even if it was years ago, as it’s still so fresh in their minds. With my first son, we had a longer drive from the hospital in White Plains, and I remember every bump and every turn. I sat in the back with him, watching in awe as he curled up in his car seat. I was petrified, and my husband drove so slowly, both over-cautious with this precious life in the back.

Fast forward a few years, and every time we get into a car, I double-check their straps and have taught my four-year-old what to look for in case someone else fastens his or his brother’s car seat belt incorrectly. As my anxiety as a mother grew with my second child, purely from trying to survive in the everyday chaos of toddlers, my need to surround myself with safety features, protective tech, and anything that could help me feel just a little more in control of the uncontrollable has become non-negotiable.The Volvo XC90

I had heard about its results in crash tests before. But recently, I was able to try it for myself for a long weekend to see how it works for our family. I’ve never been interested in buying a minivan, but I need the functionality of one. With travel and suitcases, car seats, strollers, toddler bikes, and family from the UK staying with us recently, we’ve been considering upgrading my car to a 7-seater, but looking for something a little more SUV-like. I still want something luxurious and stylish, and this one kept coming out on top during my research.Safety features in the XC90.

And now I understand why. The Volvo XC90 doesn’t just tick the boxes; it practically rewrites them when it comes to safety, comfort, and smart design for families.

One of the standout features for me was the integrated booster seat in the second row. It’s simple, but genius for kids who are in that in-between stage and an added layer of convenience and safety when you’re juggling multiple drop-offs or spontaneous carpooling. Then there’s the 360-degree camera system, which made parking in tight spots and busy lots so much less stressful. The cameras in the Volvo XC90.

When I first picked up the car, the team at Riley Volvo helped me get set up and settled. As I carefully installed our car seats, trying not to scratch this beautiful, untouched vehicle, they reassured me: “Don’t worry, be as forceful as you need to be. These seats are built for it.” The materials are incredibly soft on the inside, yet completely durable – toddler-proof without compromising aesthetics.

There’s something deeply comforting about knowing your car is looking out for you and your family, and can cope with the everyday of kids even when you’re not consciously thinking about it—whether that’s through lane-keeping assist, collision avoidance, or even the durability of the interior. And in this season of life, when chaos can be one spilled juice box and bowl of Cheerios away, that means everything.

We might not be able to bubble-wrap the world for our kids—but choosing the right car comes pretty close. And if you’re in the trenches of car seat buckles, school runs, and grocery hauls like I am, I can’t recommend giving the XC90 a try enough.

At the very least, it might help you feel just a bit more in control of the chaos. And maybe, just maybe, we moms can even enjoy the ride!
