Dear Preschooler

preschoolerDear Preschooler,

I know you’re just starting your first day of preschool, but I can’t help but think pretty soon you will be off getting married. {Cue tears.} You will be learning new words, even though I wish you would say “cupcape” instead of cupcake, properly forever. And when you tell me that things are “derzasterable,” I totally get it. I believe you when you tell me that 100 is the biggest number. I will always act surprised every time you say, “Did you know that 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 +1 = 6 mom?”

Dear Preschooler, I was so proud of you when you said your first word and when you stopped using a bottle. Potty training was a trip; you did that FAST and like a pro. Now that you’re starting school full-time, I am asking you to slow down. Slow down so much that you take a nap now and again because you and I both know you can use one.

Dear Preschooler, you will be making new friends, but please remember I am your first BFF, and I am the one who will always be there for you no matter what. {Okay, cue the tears again.} You impressed me when we took swim lessons this summer. I couldn’t believe it when I saw you swim across the pool unassisted. Even though you had your head back and you did a few silly twirls and twists, you made it. And I am so proud of you. I can not wait for you to start ballet class. I keep wondering if you’re going to have the love-hate relationship I did or if I’m going to see you star in Swan Lake in 2036.

Dear Preschooler, I hope I can push you enough as you grow and show you that it’s okay to fail, and it’s how you overcome the failures that make you strong. I hope I can show you confidence and help you build it. I dream that you will be the best you can be and then push yourself a little more to be even better. I want you to love life and appreciate the small things. If you see me crying over the next few days, it’s because I’m happy and sad, excited, scared, worried, anxious, proud.

I can’t wait to see who you become, my little Preschooler!

Love,

Your Emotional Mom

I am a stay at home mom to my daughter Penny and son Grady who will be 2 in November. My husband and I were both born and raised in Norwalk, had the most magical wedding at the Maritime Aquarium, and currently reside in, wait for it, Norwalk!! When the kids are napping my “me time” is focused on my direct sales business, Younique. I love sharing make up with women, giving them confidence and making them feel beautiful! Being able to stay connected to adults outside of the normal day to day errands of running to Stew’s or finding a new playground to keep my children entertained is an added bonus too!
