It’s fall, y’all. And there’s nothing quite like fall in New England. We may not have Route 100 in Vermont, but there are still plenty of breathtaking backdrops in Fairfield County that are full of autumn colors and gorgeous spots to photograph your family. Book a local photographer during the season, or DIY with your iPhone in portrait mode on a random Saturday morning. You won’t be sorry when you have these photos to look back on years from now.
Here is a round-up of our favorite local fall photo spots that offer fall scenery at its finest.
FARMS: Looking for pumpkins, hay, and beautiful landscapes? Head to any of these family favorites.
- Ambler Farm (Wilton) – A beautiful, serene location known for its spectacular sunsets!
- Heckscher Farm, Stamford Museum & Nature Center (Stamford) – A 10-acre oasis full of farm animals and organic gardens.
- Jones’ Family Farm (Shelton): If you can, go on a weekday. It will be less crowded, and you can get that spectacular view without random people in the background.
- Warrup’s Farm (Redding) – A quintessential New England farm with pumpkins and fresh maple syrup.

APPLE ORCHARDS: Little hands reaching for apples and rows of beautiful trees. Check out our round-up of the best spots for apple picking in Fairfield County. Some of our favorite family photos are from this annual tradition!
PARKS: Fairfield County has an abundance of beautiful parks full of gorgeous fall trees and plenty of scenery.
- Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens (Stamford) – Fall foliage abounds inside this rural oasis.
- Booth Memorial Park (Stratford): The Boothe family owned this estate for many generations and was willed to the town in 1949.
- Bruce Park (Greenwich): Bruce Park includes walking paths, ponds, and waterways, as well as scenic views of Long Island Sound.
- Cranbury Park (Norwalk) – Look for the giant canopy tree, an easy backdrop for even novice photographers.
- Great Hollow Lake (Monroe) – Make a loop around and have your kids strike a pose on the bridge. Amazing colors!
- Housatonic Rail Trail (Trumbull, Monroe, & Newtown) – This 3-mile trail offers many great spots for a family photo.
- Putnam Park (Bethel) – A great historical landmark.
- Tarrywile Park (Danbury) – Once an active dairy farm and fruit orchard, it is now home to 21 miles of hiking trails, two ponds, a lake, and several picnic areas (so bring snacks!).
- Tilly Pond Park (Darien) – One of the most beautiful parks in the area, with fountains and a large pond.
- Waveny Park (New Canaan) – Stay close to Waveny House or explore the grounds for the perfect backdrop.
- Weir Farm (Wilton & Ridgefield) – 60 acres of painterly woods. Check out this blog post about our own national treasure.

If anyone heads up to the Hickories (Ridgefield, CT) bring cash for the farm stand! Open 11-6 most days. Delicious fresh produce and beautiful flowers. They also do events like weddings!
