Family-Friendly Bike Trails in Fairfield County


family-friendly bike trailsOne of the best activities to do with your family is taking a bike ride together. Spring, late summer, and early fall are ideal seasons for family bike rides because of the comfortable temperatures outside. 

Connecticut is a great place to bike because of the beautiful and varied landscapes of hills, water, rocks, and forest. Below are some of Fairfield County’s popular biking trails that the whole family can enjoy. 

Farrington Woods 

Their newly paved rail trail sits on the Danbury/New York line. From advanced mountain bikers to the beginner, this bike path is the perfect option for bikers of all levels. 

Ridgefield Recreation Center Trails

This is an easier option with paved trails, so good for younger kids. The trail offers options for .19 miles, .24 miles, and 1.17 miles.

New Canaan Biking Trails

This site offers several options for difficulty and length around the New Canaan area with specific road directions. It also mentions Hoyt Farms development for a shorter ride for younger kids.

Still River Greenway Trail

The perfect option for young bikers as it’s flat and has a variety of scenery for kids to take in. The trail is two miles long and features a 10-foot-wide paved surface. It also has a 170-foot prefabricated bridge over the Still River. 

Shelton Lakes Recreation Path

This path is just over two miles and relatively flat, so great for a range of ages and younger kids. If you’re up for an adventure, there is a longer trail (about 11 miles) called the Shelton Lakes Greenway trail, and there is a map you can access.

Pequonnock Valley Greenway Rails to Trails

Near Trumbull and about five miles, it’s a good spot for mountain biking. There is a scenic river view, and has various skill levels for all ages.

Monroe Housatonic Rail Trail

This trail is approximately five miles, and the path is crushed stone. If you wish to venture out further on mountain bikes, you can continue on the Newtown trail.
