Flinders Lane : Fun and Food from Down-Under

Flinders Lane recently invited Fairfield County Mom to come to Stamford for a family-style meal. Always excited to try something new, I checked out their menu and saw that they were Australian-inspired. My knowledge of Australia and its cuisine ends at fairy toast and Bluey, so I went in ready to try whatever the land down under had to offer.

My friend and I started with some cocktails. She ordered the “Figitaboutit,” which was refreshing and flavorful without being too sweet. I ordered the “Empress’ New Spritz,” a gin-based drink with florals, vanilla, and topped with bubbles. I will try their espresso martini with homemade cold brew when I return. We enjoyed our cocktails while listening to the awesome live band.

Our amazing server Ash started bringing out the feast that began with crispy Brussel sprouts (just the right combo of spice and sweet with chili caramel), lamb and manchego croquettes (decadent bites of goodness), pear and arugula salad (fresh and flavorful), and of course the sausage rolls. I had never had a sausage roll, but I know it’s a staple overseas. We both loved how they were hearty without being heavy, and the dipping mayo was so good. Flinders Lane apps

Sausages in a blanket. Then came the main event. We were able to share several mains, including the Atlantic salmon (salmon is usually my go-to in a new restaurant, and this was cooked perfectly), chicken parmigiana (comfort food at its best, and the cavatelli were amazing), and pancetta gnocchi (my favorite of the three, decadent cheese and cream and oh my goodness get it). When I go back, I want to try the meat pie of the month for the full Australian experience.

Now I will ALWAYS save room for dessert, and I’m glad we did. The sticky date pudding is a sweet and comforting end to this absolute feast of a meal.

Flinders Lane moved from Manhattan’s East Village to Stamford in 2017 and has been bringing a combination of Australian comfort and crowd-pleasers to the downtown area. Flinder’s Lane is named after an area in Melbourne known for its great restaurants and bars.

Flinders Lane truly has something for everyone. I can not wait to return with my friends and contributor team to try out more of this extensive menu. Thank you again to Flinder’s Lane for hosting us!
