A perfect way to spend a summer day, splashing in the cool water or soaking up the sun from the sand. Fall is another great time to visit a local lake; the foliage around the perimeter makes for lovely photos and a calming atmosphere. Below, you can find some of the most accessible lakes in the Fairfield County area.

Candlewood Lake {Brookfield}

  • Location: 100 Pocono Road
  • Hours: Weekdays – 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Weekends – 11:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Fees: Residents – $5 per person daily (or season pass); Non-resident – Must be accompanied by a resident, $5 per guest

Lake Mohegan {Fairfield}

  • Location: 960 Morehouse Highway
  • Hours: Daily – 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Fees: Resident season pass – $10; Non-resident season pass: $20; Daily passes are available for purchase

Great Hollow Lake {Monroe}

  • Location: Purdy Hill Road
  • Hours: Lakeside of the park: 7:00 a.m. to sunset
  • Fees: Resident – $5 per vehicle; Non-resident – $10 per vehicle

Topstone Park & Steichens Pond {Redding}

  • Location: 72 Topstone Road
  • Hours: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Fees: Season Family Pass – Resident – $120; Non-resident – $240; Day passes – Adult resident – $5; Adult non-resident – $10 adult; Seniors $2/$5 after 5:00 p.m.
  • Special Amenities: Free boat rentals (kayak, canoe), hiking trails, and a dog-friendly swimming area.

Martin Park {Ridgefield}

  • Location: 19 Great Pond Road
  • Hours: 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Fees: Resident season pass $168; Non-resident pass – $250; Daily resident pass per person – $15 per person; Non-resident pas per person – $20
  • Special Amenities Water features include an inflatable slide (ages 3-5), a zoom flume (42″+ swimmers), and a floating water mat (open during set hours)

Merwin Meadows {Wilton}

  • Location: 180 School Road
  • Hours: The pond and beach are off limits this season due to a restoration project, but the picnic area is still available from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Fees: Resident season pass $60; Non-resident pass – $150; Daily resident pass per person – $5 adults and $2 children; Non-resident pas per person – $17 adults and $8 children; no cost for all seniors
