On the 8th of every month, I am reminded that you are one month older and much closer to turning another year older. You will be two in July, and it feels like it was just yesterday that you were hiccuping in my belly. I can’t believe how far you have come in such a short time, not to mention how far I’ve come as your mama.
I am a different person than before you were born and even a different person now than when you turned one. I lived 26 years on this planet without you, yet you have taught me more in almost two years than I could have imagined.
I wish every day that I could slow time down and keep you at this age forever. It seems like you are the perfect age right now. But then again, I’ve thought that every month, and life with you keeps getting better {except the days when you have shown us an early preview of the Terrible Twos}.
You are so innocent right now and full of life, love, and laughter. As much as I want to keep you at this age forever, I also can’t wait to see how you grow up into a little girl and, eventually, a woman.
I can’t help but hear the lyrics to the song “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts play in my head as I rock you to sleep at night and kiss your sweet head. I have so many wishes for you.
1. For you to always love yourself and know how beautiful you are, inside and out.
2. For you to always stand up for yourself.
3. For you to appreciate the little things in life.
4. For you to never accept limits and always reach for the stars. Don’t ever give up on what you want.
5. For you to feel real love, even if that means you have to experience heartbreak. They are often intertwined.
6. For you to understand that money is important but not everything.
7. For you to never lose your love of adventure.
8. For you to never make someone feel inferior to you.
9. For you to always be kind to animals and remember that dogs are truly a girl’s best friend.
10. For you to always be your Daddy’s little girl.
11. For you to never forget the importance of being silly.
12. For you to forget any times that I’ve lost my patience with you. Please remember that I have always tried my best.
13. For you to smile and laugh easily and often.
14. For you to go out of your way to do something nice for a friend in need.
15. For you to never, ever forget how much I love you. I’ll always be a call away, no matter where life takes you.
Love,
Mama
