“One Morning” is a photo essay series that provides a sneak peek into the everyday lives of the Fairfield County Moms Blog contributors. The morning routine is photographed by N. Lalor Photography, and words are written by each mom to tell the story behind the images. It’s a rare and intimate look into each family’s life, one morning at a time.
I wish I were one of those women who could get up before dawn and complete a full day’s worth of activities before 9:00 a.m. But I’m not. I set my alarm for 6:00 a.m. each morning, determined to get up and work out or answer the 20 emails in my inbox. But I don’t. I wish I could be refreshed and ready to walk the dogs out of bed. But I can’t.
Instead, I hit snooze about 10 times and finally roll out of bed when the baby’s soft cries and coos become monster screams loud enough to wake the neighbors. This is how we start our day.

I could start my day now, but I don’t. I bring the baby back to bed and give him his morning bottle. Meanwhile…
Downstairs, my loving husband takes care of our furry babies, walking and feeding them.
Following me back to his room to get dressed…
Good morning, Big Brother!
Breakfasts around here are pretty casual. We never seem to eat breakfast together around the table. Instead, we eat on the move, unload the dishwasher and washing machine, pack lunches, and apply sunscreen.
Our days usually consist of only having a plan. That’s the beauty of summer—you can fly by the seat of your pants. Today, we’re going to meet the grandparents at the Beardsley Zoo. Before we leave, though, we always have time to play.
Getting dressed. We need to tame that wild hair.
One last snack for the road.
Getting two tiny humans ready and out the door is overwhelming. Those of you with more than two, I don’t know how you do it! And I hate being late! I’m constantly checking and double-checking that we have what we need and that everyone has shoes, blankies, sippy cups, and anything else under the sun, but I still forget at least two things I need. We are on time today, but his shoes are in my bag.
