Say what you want about Taylor Swift, but that girl can write. I was excited for her new album because I knew a few lyrics would hit me right in the gut.
A few standouts from her most recent album, The Tortured Poets Society:
“I wish I could un-recall how we almost had it all.”
“You’re the loss of my life.”
“How much sad did you think I had, did you think I had in me?”
“And I’m pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free.”
“And maybe you’ve reframed it and in your mind, you’ve never beat my spirit black and blue.”
I love music, I love to dance, and even more so, I love to feel. She is a master at articulating heartbreak, loss, love, and pain. And what an amazing trick to turn pain into art, darkness into light.
Is it any wonder millions of tween and teenage girls worldwide sing her praises?
Is there anything quite as validating as having someone put into words exactly what you’re feeling or have felt before? And what an incredible example of someone unafraid to step into her vulnerability with raw honesty.
