My Go-to High Protein Snacks

0

Strong is the new skinny. And protein is all the buzz these days. It supports muscle growth and repair, keeps you full longer, and gives you energy to get through the day.

If you are looking to up your protein intake during the day, here are some of my go-to snacks that are high in protein and have no added sugar.

1. Greek Yogurt

My favorite brand is Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt, but any plain Greek yogurt is great. It’s delicious with a drizzle of honey (to sweeten it up) and your favorite fruit or mixed berries. If you are feeling like something a little more savory, put a teaspoon of your favorite nut butter in with some banana slices.

2. Edamame

You can eat them warm or cold. They are delicious with a sprinkle of sea salt. I also discovered dry roasted Edamame, which are great when you are on the go.

3. Eggs/Egg whites

If you are feeling hungry in between meals, eggs or egg whites are a quick and easy snack to whip up. On the go? Hard-boiled eggs are an easy option.

4. Turkey Roll-ups

Rolled up slices of turkey are a quick and easy snack you can take on the go.

5. Cheese

I enjoy meat as a source of protein, but I find I cannot meet my daily protein goal from just meat. I need to mix it up. In moderation, cheese can be a great source of protein. My favorites are cheese sticks, fresh mozzarella, Parmesan, and Babybel (reduced-fat) cheese.

6. Fairlife Milk

My family loves Fairlife Milk. It is lactose-free and higher in protein than regular milk. And honestly, I cannot taste the difference from regular milk. One cup of fat-free Fairlife is 80 calories and has 13g of protein. I always use this milk when making my morning iced latte for added protein.

7. Catalina Crunch

Catalina Crunch is a protein cereal with no added sugar. It is delicious to eat right out of the bag or with some cold Fairlife Milk. I love to put it in my Greek yogurt when I want a little crunch. My favorite flavor is their Cinnamon Toast, which is a great, healthy alternative to Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal.

8. Shrimp

Seafood is high in protein and low in calories and saturated fat. Although it isn’t the easiest to eat on the run, I find that a handful of shrimp cocktail in a baggie can be a great snack when on the go. Six shrimp are around 70 calories and are packed with 13 grams of protein.

9. Protein Smoothies

Smoothies are delicious and satisfying when the weather gets warmer. Add in your favorite protein powder, some Greek yogurt, frozen fruit (or veggies), and your favorite milk or almond/coconut milk. Want a little added sweetness? Drizzle in a little bit of honey or agave before you blend.

10. Barebell Protein Bars

Barebell is a great option if you are craving something sweet. They have no added sugar and 20 grams of protein, but taste like a candy bar. My favorite flavor is their Caramel-Cashew.

11. Quest Protein Chips

When you are looking for something crunchy and salty, Quest chips are a great alternative to regular chips. A single serving bag contains about 150 calories and 18 grams of protein. I love their Cheddar Cheese and Buffalo Ranch chips. Be warned: their Buffalo Ranch has a kick to it.
