The 3 Person Group Chat Against the World

0

A woman texting.By now, I’m sure you’ve seen the saying that “There’s nothing more dangerous than a 3-person group chat.” Now we all know there are definitely things said that must never leave the chat, but I think we can all agree these chats aren’t “dangerous”; they are our elder millennial form of therapy, and as dangerous as they may be, we need them.

Our 3-person group chat is our safe space. It is where we come to share exciting things about our lives, our kids, and our jobs. It is where we come to vent our frustration in a completely judgment-free zone. It is where we come to complain about the daily annoyances. It is where we can say “f*ck these kids,” and the response is “SAME.” (We really love our kids, though, I promise.)

It is where we come to share what shows the other members need to watch. It is where we come to ask for advice because someone in the chat knows exactly what to say. It is where we come to send 7-minute-long audio messages back and forth because that’s easier than typing and we have a lot to say. It is where we may take six hours to respond, but we always do, and it’s always entertaining. It is where we come to laugh at each other’s misfortunes and remind each other that we are in this together.

My 3-person group chat is made up of three bold, smart, and empowering women. We are all at slightly different stages of life, but somehow it just works. We share a common bond, and we know that no matter what, we support each other. We may be old ladies, but we are young at heart, so we always have each other as a reminder of just how cool we are.

This season of motherhood is hard. It’s nonstop, always on the go, promising to make plans but most likely not following through because you have something to do with one of the kids. It’s something as small as a text thread with a few girlfriends that is such a huge part of our life, our sanity. (Bonus points if it has a funny name.)

Now BRB, I need to be mean for a second.

Born and raised in Stamford, CT, she traded in her NYC suburb upbringing for the farm life, now residing on a 36-acre family farm in Monroe, CT. A self-proclaimed "hot mess mom," she seeks to find the funny side of parenting and shed light on the fact that being a parent is challenging and hilarious at the same time. You can find her on the running trail in her spare time with a single or double running stroller and a "tiny coach" or two in tow. You may even catch her chatting with her backyard chickens and Henry, the rooster.
