Hi, I’m Erin. I’m an intellectual property attorney, a mom of three, and a wife. I also head the kids’ committee at our private lake community.
If there’s one thing I’m known for, it’s collecting titles. Every school year, I seem to take on more roles, much to my family’s amusement and occasional frustration.
I met my husband in 2014, and within six months, we had moved in together. A few months after that, we were engaged. Before our 9-month anniversary, we discovered we were expecting a baby and planning a wedding. Despite being pregnant, I kept my full-time job and attended law school in the evenings.
When our first child was born prematurely during my second month of law school, I took on the titles of NICU mom and law student. I spent my days at the NICU and my evenings in class. By Thanksgiving, our daughter was home, and we were a family of three.
By February 2016, I had added another title: expectant mother again. Our second child was born exactly one year after our first, during my second year of law school. As if that wasn’t enough, by my fourth year, I was pregnant with our third child and graduated law school nine months pregnant.
During the pandemic, we moved to Trumbull to be closer to family, adding the title of remote worker to our list. Life was a bit more manageable with both of us working from home. Now, my husband commutes to the city, and I have added the title of chauffeur to my growing list of responsibilities at least two days a week. This year, our kids are transitioning from private to public school, a new experience for all of us.
It seems that I gather more titles and responsibilities with every new season of life. From attorney and committee head to chauffeur and ever-dedicated mom, each role shapes who I am and how I navigate the wonderful chaos of our family life.
As the kids settle into public school, I anticipate the next round of titles I’ll take on. Whether becoming the class mom, organizing school events, or coaching a little league team, I know I’ll dive in headfirst. Balancing my career, family, and volunteer commitments isn’t always easy, but it is incredibly rewarding.
I often reflect on how these titles aren’t just labels; they’re a testament to the journey my family and I are on. Each one represents a chapter in our story, filled with challenges, growth, and countless memories.
Despite the busy schedule and occasional overwhelm, I wouldn’t trade any of it. These roles have made me stronger, more resilient, and profoundly grateful for the life we lead.
So, as we embrace this new school year, I look forward to the adventures and new titles that await. Here’s to managing the beautiful chaos, one title at a time.
