A Travel Sports Mom’s Guide to Essential Gear

2

As a travel sports mom, I’ve experienced blazing sun, torrential rain, and freezing winds while cheering my kids on from the sidelines. Over the years, I’ve compiled a list of must-have items that help me stay comfortable and prepared for any weather condition.

Here’s a guide to the latest and greatest essential gear for sports parents who, like me, brave the elements to support their young athletes.

1. Portable Canopy Tent

A portable canopy tent is a game-changer for sunny and rainy days. They are lightweight, easy to set up and provide ample shade or shelter. Look for UV protection and water-resistant fabric to keep you covered in all conditions.

Upgrade to a Weather Pod. Available in single- and four-person options, it allows you to see all the action while remaining dry.

2. All-Weather Blanket

An all-weather blanket is a versatile piece of gear that can keep you warm in the cold and dry in the wet. Modern versions are often made with insulated, waterproof materials and can be easily rolled up and carried with a strap or in a bag.

Upgrade to a Stadium Sack. It’s a wearable, waterproof sleeping bag that keeps you warm in the stands.

3. Insulated Water Bottle

Staying hydrated is crucial, and a good insulated water bottle can keep your drinks cold on scorching summer days and your coffee hot for early morning games. Some newer models also have built-in infusers for a refreshing twist.

Upgrade to a LoudCup. It holds your beverage and doubles as a sound maker.

4. Weather-Resistant Clothing

Investing in high-quality, weather-resistant clothing is essential. Look for breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics for hot weather and insulated, windproof materials for cold conditions. Layering is key, so pack items that can easily be added or removed as needed.

Upgrade to a Cooling Bucket Hat. Get one for the whole family.

5. Portable Heater

A portable heater can be a lifesaver on frigid game days. Compact and battery-operated, these heaters can warm your hands and feet during long hours on the sidelines. Before purchasing, make sure to check the safety features and battery life.

Upgrade to a 3-in-1 umbrella. For unpredictable weather, a multi-functional umbrella is a fantastic addition to your sports gear. This innovative umbrella design provides shelter from the rain and sun and features a built-in fan and misting function to keep you cool during hot games. It’s portable, rechargeable, and offers 360-degree protection, making it perfect for any sports parent who spends hours on the sidelines.

6. Cooling Towel

On sweltering days, a cooling towel can provide instant relief. Wet the towel, wring it out, and place it around your neck. The latest cooling towels are made with advanced materials that stay cool for longer and are incredibly lightweight.

Upgrade to a Portable Misting Fan. When wet, it instantly cools down your body temperature.

7. Portable Stadium Seat Cushion

Sitting on hard, cold, or wet bleachers can be uncomfortable. A weather-proof seat cushion provides padding and insulation. Look for cushions with non-slip bottoms and water-resistant covers for added comfort and durability.

Upgrade to a folding stadium seat with a back. You can find a more cushioned experience, including armrests, to improve your comfort level for games!

8. Heavy-Duty Wagon

A heavy-duty wagon can help you transport all your gear with ease. The latest models are foldable, have all-terrain wheels, and have compartments and cup holders to keep everything organized.

Upgrade to a Double Decker Wagon. This includes a lower level for a pop-up tent or folding chairs, which prevents the wagon from tipping over due to the weight of a pop-up tent hanging out of the top of the wagon.

10. Comfortable Chairs

A comfortable chair is a must-have for long days at the field. Look for a chair with ample padding, lumbar support, and a sturdy frame.

Upgrade to a rocker chair or chair with a removable canopy.

Every game or tournament we attend, I see more essential gear that we need. There’s always something new to learn from other parents.
