If You Give A Mom a Romance Book

0

A mom reading next to stacks of books. She might be hesitant. It’s been a few years since she’s read for pleasure. She used to read the classics, a few more modern reads, a spattering of non-fiction. She was never really a best-seller type of girl. However, a co-worker started reading romantic fantasy (romantasy for the initiated), and she recommended starting ACOTAR.

And if a mom starts reading romantasy she might remember how much she loves reading. She might remember how much she loves escaping into a different world with rich characters.

A tall, dark, handsome fairy high lord? Yes, please.

And if a mom starts enjoying the fairy romance she might wonder where the spicy parts are. The spicy fairy books that all the moms on social media are raving about. At the end of the first book, she thinks, that was it? And if she’s left wanting more…

…She might ask her friends for some book recommendations. Then, follow a few book social media accounts. Soon, she discovers that there’s not only a star system for ratings but also a spice-level rating system.

And if a mom knows there’s a spice level rating system…

…She might pick up a few books that contain 4/4 chili peppers. She might find out about dark romance. The enemies-to-lovers trope, the obsessed stalker trope, masked men using knives in *ahem* unconventional ways, all in the safety of her new Kindle. And if she finds out she likes dark romance…

…She might ask her husband to get a tattoo (he won’t). She might also giggle with her mom friends about different scenes. She’ll laugh at memes and reels about different books and feel like this is a secret club for thirty-something moms she just stumbled into. And if a mom gets comfortable enjoying and laughing about enough romance books…

…She’ll definitely recommend her favorite books to her friends. Sooner or later, she’ll buy a Kindle Unlimited subscription and follow her favorite authors on social media. A mom will have a few book clubs and a growing “to-be-read” list. And once she is spending her free time reading instead of watching television…

…She’ll eventually pick back up some of those classics, the books that first unlocked her love of reading.

Her nose in a book, she remembers how magical literature can be, whether it’s smut or Dostoyevsky. And all because you gave a mom a romance book.
